06/23/13–Brennan Manning in “The Furious Longing of God”
“After reading Brodie (referencing Thomas Brodie’s Commentary on the gospel of John), I’ve decided that if I had my life to live over again, I would not only climb more mountains, swim more rivers, and watch more sunsets; I wouldn’t only jettison my hot water bottle, raincoat, umbrella, parachute, and raft; I would not only go barefoot earlier in the spring and stay out later in the fall; but I would devote not one more minute to monitoring my spiritual growth. No, not one. …What would I actually do if I had it to do all over again? Heeding John’s counsel (referring to the Apostle in the Gospel of John), I would simply do the next thing in Love.”
My Brilliant Image
the sun admitted,
“I am just a shadow.
I wish I could show you
The infinite Incandescence
That had cast my brilliant image!”
“I wish I could show you,
When you are lonely or in darkness,
The Astonishing Light
Of your own Being!”
What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label “Liberal?” If by “Liberal” they mean, as they want people to believe, someone who is soft in his policies abroad, who is against local government, and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer’s dollar, then the record of this party and its members demonstrate that we are not that kind of “Liberal.” But if by a “Liberal” they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a “Liberal,” then I’m proud to say I’m a “Liberal.”
“You can safely assume that you’ve created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do.”
I have learned, that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.

It’s high time everyone read “Jesus for President” by Shane Claiborne before the next election.
Look it up on Amazon.com…
“For even if the whole world believed in resurrection, little would change until we began to practice it. We can believe in CPR, but people will remain dead until someone breathes new life into them. And we can tell the world that there is life after death, but the world really seems to be wondering if there is life before death.”
― Shane Claiborne, The Irresistible Revolution: Living as an Ordinary Radical
“What if revolution is more about evolution: a gradual process of incremental change, shaped by circumstance and events, flowing through the consciousness of a generation–long bfore it is articulted in a movement? What if most revolutions begin quietly–in a classroom, a prayer room, a stable–decades before the social upheaval takes place?”
